Thought I ran out of brake pad material yesterday.

Started hearing a grinding noise while coming to a stop yesterday, and assumed I had finally worn out the brakes. We were on an extended drive at the time and I was constantly getting glared at by pedestrians.

Made my way home, stuck my head underneath, and found 4 missing underbody attachments. The plastic belly pan, while still attached at the front of the vehicle, had lost it’s rearmost 4 grommets or bolts or whatever and was dragging along the asphalt as a result.

Stuck it on ramps this AM and zip tied that bugger back into place. Will try to source some proper attachments, hopefully later today.

I blame the wingnuts at Canadian Tire who last changed my oil (extended warranty says I can’t diy) though they did apparently replace a few of the forward-most bolts with new hardware so I won’t complain too loudly.

Are you sure your extended warranty explicitly states you can not change your oil? At least here in the US, an underwriter can’t prohibit who services the car, but they can require receipts. And if you do your own work you just need to show receipts of the materials (oil, filter, etc).

Positive, unfortunately.

Only a 1 year warranty though, and I only have to report 1 change per year or 10,000km, so chances are this will be the only one I’m required to have someone else perform.

I would call a consumer rights attorney in your area and ask them if that’s legal. I know it’s too late now, but it would be good for you to know.
